On our way up the coast we knew we would be passing by Steve Irwin’s zoo. Since it was another overcast day we took the chance to take a look at some of Australia’s better known animals.
The zoo was fantastic. We got to walk through a field of kangaroos who were just lazing around. We got to feed them and they were only too happy to get a rub or two. If you ever come across a roo make sure to rub their chests that’s their favourite. We even got to see a joey peeking out of mom’s pouch to nibble on some grass.
We of course saw lots of crocs and some in action. They have shows at the zoo where they demonstrate just what a croc can do as someone dangles food in front of it. The only way it would have been better was if Steve could have done the demonstrations himself.
The best part of the day was definitely the koala bears. They have quite a few of them in the zoo with plenty of opportunity to get really close to them. We both got to hold one of the little bears who wrap their arms right around you and cling on.
Sounds like a lot of fun. Did you get some photos of the baby Koala bear hugs.
Sure did!
What a wonderful experience you are having.
All the best in the New Year.
