After leaving sydey we headed to the coast in search of some beach time. We had two good days of weather and got to see some unbelievable scenery.
Driving around I am continually stunned by the amount of beauty and nature there is here. Almost immediately outside of Sydney the city disappears and we are back in mountains and alongside lakes. The facilities are incredible at all of the parks and rest areas. There are always picnic areas usually with electric bbqs, at the rivers or lakes they have places set up to gut and wash your fish and there are often walking trails nearby.
We spent the majority of our first day on the coast at diamond beach. It was exactly the kind of beach I had been looking for. It stretched kms in each direction and there was almost no one else there. The water was crystal clear but freezing cold with a huge surf.
En route to our next beach destination we took the scenic drive to take a look at Manning Point. We drove through countryside then all of a sudden turned a corner and ended up at this massive lake. We sat and hawked at the pelicans wandering around looking for a bite to eat from the two old men cleaning the fish for dinner at the pier.
The second day began at Crescent Head where we ate our breakfast on a cliff overlooking the ocean and early morning suffers. The park looked like something out of a movie set with huge rolling hills and black volcanic rocks jutting out of the water.
We spent the afternoon at Hat Head which again stretched way off into the distance. Our beach day was cut short by the rain and wind though and we hit the road after a late lunch in the park.
