Today was the day to pick up our new home – Alice the campervan. We landed just in time and after $115 cab ride (did I mention Australia is really expensive) we had our keys and maps.
This is our first time driving on the ‘wrong side’ of the road. It’s a weird feeling. Everything works just the way you remember it to, it’s just all out of place. You don’t notice the difference until you go to do a couple things at once. Suddenly you realize that your blinker is actually on your right hand and you’ve just turned on your wipers.
Our new home is a modified utility van with a raised roof so that you can stand in it. The benches and table in the back convert to a bed at night. She comes with a sink, propane stove top, mini fridge and even a microwave. It’s a bit cramped but it does the trick.
First we took Alice for a short spin to the grocery store. This place was like heaven. We could buy anything and everything we had been missing for the past year. We loaded up our trolley and stocked up Alice. We drove a couple hundred kms outside the city before we found a rest area to park. After cooking some dinner we settled in for our first night.
