We’ve known that our friends from Paper Lions were going to be playing in Shanghai for expo for a while so we made sure our schedules would line up so we could get together on the other side of the world. When you’ve been away from home for a while being able to all of a sudden sit down to lunch with half a dozen people who know you and where you come from is a real treat.
We had lunch at a lovley bistro in the former french concession area and then wandered around taking in some of the sites for the afternoon. After picking up some cheap wine from the corner store we headed back to their substantially nicer hotel to sit around and catch up. To round the night out we popped over next door the karaoke room where we were treated to quite a performance from the band.
Monday was a much quieter day than Sunday but still as much fun. We ate breakfast with John ad Colin at their hotel which was incredible –
think Delta buffet, before their press conference. While the boys were busy being rock stars Jacob and I headed to Xintiandi. Xintiandi is an upscale part of Shanghai where they have ripped down and put back together all of the original buildings and converted them into small cafes, shops and restaurants.
The rest of the day was more or less whiled away over some drinks and a walk through old Shanghai. We had the chance to skype with John’s wife Kathleen, who unfortunately couldn’t make the trip, over some terrible Chinese Wolfberry wine before dinner – John treated us to a delicious meal in Xintiandi.
It was really awesome getting to spend some time with friends from home. We had a great time and enjoyed the extra company. So if any of you plan to be anywhere near us in the next few months let us know. We’d definitely be up for changing up the schedule for another taste of home.
