We arrived safe and sound with very little trouble in Nanjing. We got
ourselves booked into our hotel (woohoo!) and unpacked our bags for
the first time. The hotel is a little more than we budgeted for but we
couldn’t find a decent hostel and it sure is nice to have our own room
and shower.
Unfortunately the rain has followed us across the country and it has
been pouring since we arrived. We were both quite tired after the
overnight journey so we took it pretty easy. We headed out to the
foreign languages bookstore and picked ourselves up some reading
material. This also gave us a chance to catch a glimpse at our friends
John and Linda’s hometown. So far we are very impressped.
The city is clean and orderly even in the rain. Even the view at the
train station was spectacular. This is the most green I’ve seen in
over a year and I’m loving it. There are huge trees canopying all of
the streets and the city seems to run at a calmer pace than Xian.
We quickly wandered around the area next to our hotel to pick up some
street food for dinner before heading back to the hotel. The people
were friendly and the food cheap and delicious. From what I’ve seen
Nanjing may end up being one of my top cities in China.
