So far Brynn has been hogging up all the stories and I’ve been completely silenced. Now she is at school and I am left all alone in a strange apartment in an unfamiliar place. I should be able to kill a couple of minutes of our time with things that I feel are worth typing about, things you can skim through at your leisure.
Our new neighborhood seems to be quite nice. I think that we will be quite happy here once we settle in. It is hard to explain what it is like to land in a new place where nothing is quite the same as you are used to and even your imagination has lead you astray. The best way I can describe for anyone to be able to experience this is to take every electronic device that you depend on (computer, phone, etc.) and change all of your language preferences from English to Korean. The device still serves the same purpose. The difference is that now you have to trust your memory to be able to navigate the menus and get where you need to go. Now imagine that someone has gone to the Superstore and changed every label on every item in the store. The shapes are the same, the colors are similar but you just can’t be sure if that is really milk or if it is cream, or if that is Mr. Clean or mouthwash.
I have to say that it is very exciting to be here. I look forward to the challenges that are in front of us and have no doubt that we can figure them out. The longer we stay and the more people we come in contact with the easier things will naturally become. I have always been a traveler and will always be a traveler at heart. Home is great but it’s not nearly as exciting as being away from everything you know. For me it is like taking a boat down a river. You may be boat #3067 to make the journey that year but as far as you can tell you are the only boat on the river, cutting your own new path for the very first time.
Except you can’t find the superstore because it’s surrounded by stalls of rotting fruit and vegetables.
You may wish to skip the mouth wash for a while then!
Sounds like its going to be a painful process of trial and error!
