I’m sitting here exhausted but unable to sleep – I blame the future 12 hour time difference. I keep running through all of the things I need to get done before Sunday. Trying to prioritize and figure out which ones I can live without finishing. After I go through that I start thinking about all the people I still need to say goodbye to. The whole thing really just makes me want to throw up.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m excited to go – really. I’m just really not excited about the next week of preparations and hugs. I’m excited to see what Korea looks like. I’m excited to see our new place. I’m excited to meet my kids. I’m not excited to sit on a plane for 18 hours or have no idea how to buy groceries, get where I want to go, say hello to someone.
I try to remind myself that this will be one of the greatest highlights of my life. I think it’s safe to say that no other trip will top this one. For tonight, that reminder doesn’t seem to be working.
If you teach those kids English anything like you taught me Linear Algebra in an afternoon, they’ll master the language in a week. Have fun!

I would just like to claim your title as professional hobos.. i believe I came up with that, and I think its great. BON VOYAGE!
Yeah sure, just leave us here on PEI – go ahead, we’ll survive – barely – I am home here about 1:30 and thinking about the two of you journeying off to S Korea. Well, perhaps I have had a few too many but seriously a year? Of course there is an upside to knowing the future -damn it I will never live that down will I? Woe is me….
Anyway, I know you will have the time of your lives – just keep in touch with your mothers, some day you will know just how much blood, sweat and tears goes into being a mother, probably the most powerful relationship on earth, now I will place a drunken phone call to my oldest and boldest and he probably does not feel quite as strongly as I do on the subject but who gives a shit really, I know I am right on this one!!!!
Anyway, enjoy yourselves and for God’s sake don’t forget to keep in touch, especially with Kayla, she will miss you terribly even though she probably won’t admit it.
You have no idea how long it took me to type this without any errors, but you are both worth it. I will expect some correspondence promptly đŸ™‚
Keep safe, learn lots and have fun….
Auntie Karen
Don’t forget your 73 deodorant applicators!
It’s been a lot of preparation, and a lot of planning but you guys are finally on your way! (well, at the moment you’re in Vancouver, stuck, apparently) I can’t wait to see your pictures, but especially hear your stories! You entertained be with a year’s worth of stories at UNB – and you were still in the maritimes! Who knows what kind of incredible adventures await?
Enjoy the ride of your life!
