Winnipeg is officially the city we don’t ever need to go back to. It has a feeling to it and it’s not a nice one. It feels sad, and lost. It feels like desperation and loneliness. It’s like the kid at school that has nowhere to sit in the cafeteria. The Airbnb we stayed in had posters warning about human trafficking – and you could feel the possibility.
It’s not to say that we didn’t enjoy any of our time in Winnipeg. We only really had one full day there before we were scheduled to cross back into the US and keep moving our way east. We spent the first evening close to home after two days of driving. The kids and I headed across the street to the school playground while we waited on our pizza delivery.
We spent our day in Winnipeg touring around the forks. We went for a nice walk, the kids had a great time coaxing the prairie dogs in and out of their burrows and the park was top notch. We wrapped up the day with a stroll around the market before heading home for the evening.
