We left Nashville and continued south. We have reworked this trip at least 16 times now and so we are only staying in Mississippi for a week, which is about a week longer than all recommendations we have been given. We had really no reason for picking Mississippi, other than it seemed to be reasonable weather, we could get a beautiful house on a lake and it seemed relatively close to New Orleans and the gulf coast.
We arrived at our new spot just in time for torrential downpours. Mads and I had headed out to grab a few groceries and got caught in some of the heaviest rain I have ever seen. We eventually made it back home with supper in time for a fabulous lightning show over the lake.
After a solid day of driving and a couple of nights in close quarters a day in the sunshine after the lake was just what we needed. We spent our first whole day just getting settled in and more importantly it was warm enough to settle in outside. It also worked out that Jacob found tickets to a New Orleans saints game for the next afternoon – so a fairly successful first day.

We headed in to New Orleans – about an hour long drive late Sunday morning to watch the Saints vs Falcons in their last game of the season. After much deliberation on what would be appropriate clothing for a football game we arrived to realize that it’s an indoor stadium. We are real fans. I also had to sprint 3 miles round trip to the van to drop off my bag. Turns out they’re really strict on what you can take in with you.
The game itself was a ton of fun. The kids were super into it. Nora asked about 631 questions on how football worked and why there was so much chanting. They made a solid effort to make it onto the jumbotron but I would assume the cameras can’t shoot that high up in the crowd. Saints won the game 48-17 and we all had a blast.
