Country music, cowboy boots and daytime drinking aren’t really my thing, well at least two of those things aren’t, so we decided to keep our stop in Nashville short. We only had one day and two nights on the docket for Nashville and that worked out just perfectly.
Unfortunately, Jacob woke up with a headache so to prevent us all going completely crazy in a hotel room together I bundled up the kids and we walked the 1.5 miles downtown. With no real plan in mind other than some fresh air and seeing what we could see we ended up having a fairly successful afternoon. We each only cried once.
Turns out Nashville is like a weird cross between New Orleans and Las Vegas. It’s really shiny until you get close enough and then you realize it all smells a bit like urine and there’s a reason there’s a cop car on each block. Nonetheless we had fun checking out the mural art, trying on cowboy boots and people watching. The highlight of the day was probably the syrup with edible glitter and the sun diner for their waffles.

Before we all tucked in for the night we decided to check out the Parthenon. The Parthenon in Nashville is the world’s only exact-size and detail replica of the original temple in Athens, Greece. When Tennessee celebrated its 100th year of statehood with the Tennessee Centennial Exposition, Nashville took advantage of its nickname “Athens of the South” and built the Fine Art Building as a copy of Athens’ most famous building and the epitome of Greek classical architecture. Either way, it was worth going to look at even if we broke Charlie’s heart by not paying the $10/person entrance fee.
