ON the road

Jacob and I have been talking about pulling the kids out of school to show them the world since before the kids even existed. This isn’t exactly when or how we thought we would get to this point, and I’m not sure we would have thought Ontario would be our first destination, but that’s a much longer story.

We left home Thursday around noon as I literally mopped myself out of our home. We did one last look around, four of five of us in various stages of sobbing and settled into the van. The dog was not to be excluded on this leg of our adventure and so he took his place as close to the front as he was allowed.

We convinced the kids to keep going a few hours after we stopped in Woodstock for some dinner. There were several reminders of how long we had been in the car and more than a few requests for it to be over before we made it through New Brunswick. Unfortunately for us we made it just west of Quebec City where it is apparently the dead of winter. It was a horrendous -25°. It was a solid reminder of exactly why we are selling off most of our life to effectively live out of our van for the foreseeable future.

It was no warmer in the morning when we set out. We raced out of the frozen tundra in search of anywhere that didn’t hurt your face to be outside. After just one more roadside stop we pulled in to our AirBnB before complete darkness and a balmy 9°!
